Meet the Mosquito Squad

Meet the Mosquito Squad

The Mosquito Squad is a special team of superheroes. Combining their unique skills, they keep citizens safe from mosquito bites. You can help the squad by doing the exact same things they do!

Dunk Devil is a kid on a mission. Whenever he sees standing water that cannot be drained, he drops his favorite item on his tool belt: A mosquito dunk. These dunks kill the larvae in the water, so they never have the chance to grow up and bite us!

Barbara Bush Memorial HIV Testing Clinic

Barbara Bush Memorial HIV Testing Clinic

The Brazos County Health Department will be dedicating Thursday, May 3rd's HIV testing clinic to the late Barbara Bush. Clinic hours will be 8:30-11:30 am.
We will also be accepting new and gently used children's books for the Barbara Bush Memorial Library inside the Play Room.
Mrs. Bush played a major role in destigmatizing HIV/AIDS during the height of the AIDS panic. After a day visiting HIV/AIDS hospice patients she boldly stated, "You can hug and pick up AIDS babies and people who have the HIV virus. There is a need for compassion."

STI Clinic Update

STI Clinic Update

Life gets busy, but that's no excuse not to be tested for STI's. Males who do not show any signs or symptoms may opt for a quick and easy urine test, which will test for gonorrhea and chlamydia.

Signs and symptoms include, but are not limited to, burning and/or pain while urinating or having sex, greenish/yellowish/white discharge, redness at the tip of the penis, swollen or sore testicles, fever, rash, lower abdominal pain, pain in the joints, and inflamed tendons.

Protect others from getting the flu

Protect others from getting the flu

If you have the flu, it's important that you keep others from getting sick. Keep the following in mind:

  • Stay at home unless you're going to the doctor for an antiviral medication.
  • Don't take the family with you when you go to the doctor. Taking them with you will expose them to the flu virus and get them sick.
  • Clean surfaces you touch like door knobs and remote controls.
  • If you're concerned about complications like dehydation or a high fever (103 or higher), seek medical attention.

Community Immunity

Community Immunity

When a critical portion of a community is immunized against a contagious disease, most members of the community are protected against that disease because there is little opportunity for an outbreak. Even those who are not eligible for certain vaccines—such as infants, pregnant women, or immunocompromised individuals—get some protection because the spread of contagious disease is contained. This is known as "community immunity."
